Goal of the Activity

Raise student awareness of sustainable grilling both from a food standpoint, through lower meat consumption, and through the use of reusable dishware. 

Description

To celebrate its 8 years ESN Unicatt decided to organize a barbecue. However, it opted not to carry out the usual barbecue where you eat a lot of meat, but with the same event wanted to raise awareness among volunteers and international students to a responsible consumption of meat and the use of alternative tableware to disposable plastic. In order to do this, it first formed an OC divided into the following Working Groups: food, communication, environmental sustainability, games. 
To raise awareness of responsible meat consumption, in addition to regular burgers, we decided to offer beyond burgers and vegetable burgers. The vegetables we offered were collected thanks to the collaboration with an association in Milan (RECUP) that every weekend collects unsold food from neighborhood markets. This option allowed us to have a wide variety of vegetables and fruits and to contribute to Zero Waste. We have also contacted another Association that offers hard plastic and reusable tableware for parties, this choice has allowed us to minimize disposable plastic. Finally, we organized some team building activities among the international students that were very helpful during the morning rain.
