Goal of the Activity

The primary objective of this event was to heighten awareness and foster a stronger connection between Italian students, European Institutions and ESN stakeholders. Our aim was to demystify the functioning of European Institutions, shedding light on their crucial role in our society as well as creating a stronger connection between the three levels of ESN. In pursuit of this goal, we dedicated our efforts to collaborate with various institutions and unite officials whose insights would be meaningful and enriching for our volunteers.

Description

Our expedition in Brussels unfolded from June 3rd to June 6th, 2022. We comprised a team of 35 individuals from various corners of ESN Italy, meticulously chosen by the National Board based on our CVs and motivational letters. Our leaders were a combination of National Liaison Officers and Board members.

On the initial day, we visited the ESN Office, where we had the privilege of meeting two representatives from the European Federation for Intercultural Learning. During an informal session, they shared insights into their work and support for young people in the realm of mobility and intercultural learning. The following day presented an opportunity for a city tour and visits to two pivotal museums linked to the history of the European Union: the Parlamentarium and the House of European History. In the afternoon, our journey led us to the headquarters of the European Youth Forum, where we gained insights into the NGO's work and participated in a challenging Advocacy practical workshop.

Our third day was marked by a visit to the European Parliament, where we had the honor of meeting MEP Brando Benifei. Following this, we returned to the ESN Office for interactions with the Secretariat team, an International Board Member, and Maria Palladino, an education expert representing Italy at the EU. An additional highlight included a visit to DG EAC, where we engaged in discussions with their Policy Officers, including Vito Borelli, chef de secteur pour le programme Erasmus Mundus.

While we conversed with the DG EAC, a parallel event unfolded at the European Parliament for our volunteers. Some of us had the opportunity to watch a film called "L'amico siriano" and participate in a debate with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) focusing on migration.

The culmination of our adventure on the 6th included a tour of the European Committee of the Regions and the European Economic and Social Committee. This wasn't just an ESN event; it was a unique chance to learn, connect, and advocate for matters that hold significance.
