Our main goal with the "Erasmus in School" project was to raise awareness among children about cultural diversity and the concept of European citizenship from a young age. We aimed to promote values of inclusion, sharing, and mutual understanding among young Europeans. Additionally, we hoped to inspire children to explore new cultures and open themselves to the world around them.
Moreover, we wanted to actively involve Erasmus students in the association and provide them with a unique experience alongside us. It was wonderful to see how many wanted to participate in the event.
All participants will receive a certificate as a memento of the day. Our hope is to extend this project to a target audience of older students, creating activities that are even more stimulating and that bring all young people closer to the reality in which they live, making them aware of the diverse cultures around them.
During our visits to the kindergarten, we conducted interactive mini English lessons that introduced the children to the idea of ESN and the European Union, using a story specially created for their level of understanding.
The protagonist of this story is Poo, our mascot, who, along with his friends, travels to Brussels to create the flag of friendship. Together with the children, we practiced English with welcome songs, songs about colors, and the alphabet, and then we all colored the sea animals, friends of our Poo, who loves skewers. To conclude, we created a poster with all the animals colored by the children titled "Erasmus in Schools," with the signature of all the participants.
The project generated great enthusiasm among the members of our ESN section. A total of 11 members actively engaged in planning, organizing, and executing activities at the kindergarten. Their direct involvement and enthusiasm contributed to the success of the event.
Nine Erasmus students participated with us, actively involved during the lessons, speaking English with the children and responding in Italian. In doing so, the children were able to approach different cultures, also establishing beautiful friendships.
