1) Sections and ESN Volunteers:
For ESN Bari, Lecce, and Foggia, this activity aims to enhance the capacity of volunteers to implement inclusive and gender-sensitive actions. By analysing the results of the student survey and participating in specialized training, volunteers will gain practical knowledge on inclusive communication in multicultural environments and gender equality issues. This will lead to more conscious planning of activities that consider the specific needs of international students. The objective is to empower volunteers with the tools and skills to be more inclusive and foster a safer, welcoming environment.
2) International Students:
We to ensure that international students feel better supported and more included in Bari, Lecce and Foggia. The survey will provide a platform for them to express challenges they’ve faced and offer input on how ESN can improve. By addressing their specific concerns and developing practical solutions, we aim to enhance their mobility experience, making it more inclusive, accessible, and empowering. Thanks to our Buddy Programme ESNers that have direct and close contact with international students will be able to increase their sense of belonging beyond any barriers.
3) International Relations Offices and Local Partners:
By sending to our stakeholders recommendations we will also create stronger collaboration with International Relations Offices and local partners, helping them understand the inclusivity challenges international students face and providing them concrete solutions they could implement to make our local environments more inclusive for everyone.
Our Local Phase activity will focus on enhancing inclusivity for international students in Southern Italy, specifically in Bari, Lecce, and Foggia. This initiative is divided into two key stages:
- Survey and Workshop: We will start in the first half of November by conducting a survey among international students in Bari, Lecce, and Foggia to understand their experiences of inclusion during their mobility. The survey will explore also how supported they felt by ESN in their cities and highlight the key inclusivity-related challenges they faced. The collected data will then be analysed during a workshop, where volunteers from the three ESN sections will identify practical solutions to improve the inclusivity of our actions and integrate these into sections’ action plans as well as prepare recommendations for International Relations Offices and Local Partners. This stage will be prepared in cooperation with participants of Eduk8 starter 2024 and SIYE Varna 2024.
- Training Event for Volunteers: The second stage will be a one-day training event in Bari, in mid-November for volunteers from ESN Bari, ESN Lecce, and ESN Foggia. The training will include sessions on inclusive communication in a multicultural environment, exploring the intersection of gender and sex issues (by PhD student of gender studies), as well as a dedicated session to discuss and implement the solutions derived from the survey findings (by Eduk8 facilitator).
