The primary goal for participating in the Secret Sinterklaas celebration organized by ESN Groningen is to foster a sense of community and cultural exchange among participants while celebrating the Dutch tradition of Pakjesavond. Specifically:
- Cultural Immersion:
- Gain a deeper understanding of Dutch traditions and customs, particularly the Sinterklaas celebration. Engage in the experience of participating in a traditional Dutch holiday event, contributing to a sense of cultural immersion.
- Language Practice:
- Utilize the opportunity to practice and improve Dutch language skills by engaging with the Sinterklaas Journaal and communicating with fellow participants. Strengthen language skills through active participation in the Secret Sinterklaas celebration, where Dutch may be spoken during the gift exchange.
By actively pursuing these goals, participants can maximize their enjoyment of the Secret Sinterklaas celebration, contributing to a rich cultural experience, language development, and the creation of lasting connections within the community.
Join this typical Dutch celebration and enjoy the fun of giving and receiving presents!
Do you like receiving a surprise gift as well as giving presents? Then this Secret Sinterklass organised by ESN Groningen is perfect for you. If you sign up you agree to buy a present for someone randomly assigned to you. Just like Secret Santa, but in The Netherlands, this is called “Lootjes trekken.”
- On Friday the 24th of November, at 12:00 the sign-ups will close and we will draw names. This means that everyone is assigned someone else’s name and wish list. It is then your job to buy presents for this person worth 5 euros.
- Bring your present(s) to the ESN Office (Pelsterstraat 23) until Friday, the 1st of December at 16:00.
- On Tuesday the 5th of December, you can pay Sinterklaas a visit at the ESN office to pick up your presents!
Signing up is free, but it does mean you agree to spend 5 euros of your own money on a present for someone else. However, you of course also get presents! As it is typical to write a poem that you give together with your gift, you can also indicate if you want to do that as well or not.
