Goal of the Activity

The goal of the activity was to encourage students to learn more about biodiversity, urban nature and biology. We also wanted to implement the "citizen science" by teaching the students to learn how to use instruments such as apps to discover Florence and their home city too, noticing local and exotic plants.

Description

We met in the park, starting with a little ice breaker for the students. We then explained the history of the Giardino dell'Orticoltura and its botanical treasures. The students were invited to download the Plantnet App. We then explored the Garden, together with a PhD Student from the University of Florence focusing on local and exotic plants inside the Garden.

By using the App, students were challenged to guess the various plants and to bring back with them such knowledge to implement the "citizen science" project.

Finally the PhD Student explained the future of the botanic garden and in general of the science.
