participants
The event brought together international students and the local community to raise awareness about various forms of social discrimination, with a particular focus on gender identity and sexual orientation. Through a conference and an artistic workshop, participants reflected on experiences of exclusion and diversity. The artworks created during the workshop were publicly exhibited, encouraging dialogue and fostering understanding between different cultures and perspectives. The initiative promoted values of equality, respect, and social inclusion.
The event was structured into three main parts: a conference, an artistic workshop, and a final exhibition, with support from Arcigay Trento and the University of Trento, which provided one of its venues for the activities.
Conference
During the conference, a representative from Arcigay Trento addressed the theme of gender and sexual identity, while two volunteers from ESN Trento contributed as well. One of the volunteers, involved in the Gender in the Spotlight project of ESN Italy, provided an international perspective on discrimination in contemporary society. This session created an open space for dialogue, accessible to international students and the local community.
Artistic Workshop
Following the conference, participants were invited to reflect on their own experiences in response to the question: “When did you feel discriminated against?” These reflections were translated into artwork on canvas, each accompanied by a brief description. This workshop encouraged both intimate and collective reflection on various forms of discrimination.
Final Exhibition
The artworks created were exhibited at the conference hall of Collegio Clesio, which supported the exhibition setup. The display, open to the public, provided an opportunity for international students and the local community to engage with the represented experiences, fostering an open dialogue and a deeper understanding of the dynamics of discrimination. This initiative aimed to promote dialogue and mutual understanding.
