The “Coffee Talks” project, carried out in different events, aims to promote awareness and dialogue on diverse subjects, in this case, gender equality. This awareness and dialogue promotion is focused on international students and local students, who come from diverse cultural backgrounds. By providing a safe and welcoming space, it encourages participants to reflect on and challenge gender norms and biases. The goal is to inspire positive change, foster inclusivity, and create a more equitable mindset within the international student community, alongside giving an opportunity to know more about the topic.
Prior to the event we shared on our Instagram page and WhatsApp Group the date and time of the event as well as the objectives behind it. The activity takes place in a local café, creating a relaxed atmosphere, with participants seated in small groups or all together. The event begins with the distribution of flashcards containing topics or personal testimonies related to gender equality and inequality, that serve as conversation starters. Participants also had the opportunity to write their thoughts and personal experiences on a big poster to promote exchange. This collaborative exercise allows everyone to contribute anonymously or openly, fostering a sense of community and understanding. ESN volunteers foster the conversation, ensuring that all voices are heard and discussions remain focused on the subject, respectful and inclusive. Additionally, a quiz-like activity helped engage participants by asking them to reflect on specific gender-related situations.
