This activity was organized on the occasion of the Social Impact Days with the aim of promoting the positive impact of international students on society. The main purposes of the bike trip were:
- Promote a healthy lifestyle, both for our mind and body, through sport and getting in touch with nature;
- Promote sustainable mobility;
- Make the participants discover new places in Pisa's whereabouts (parks, church, beach);
- Make the participants know local environmentalist associations;
- Promote, through interactive activities, critical thinking on issues such as sustainable mobility, recycling and so on;
- Promote social activity and mutual respect by making the participants interact and collaborate during activities, sports and games throughout the event.
The event consisted of a bike trip from Pisa to the beach, in Tirrenia (about 40km round trip). Along the way, we made some stops, to rest and carry out some activities. In particular, we have set the meeting point near a bicycle rental shop, to give the possibility to those who did not have a bike to be able to rent it. The first stop took place in a park on the outskirts of Pisa and involved the environmentalist association “Legambiente”: leaflets with the titles of their projects in Italian were distributed to be associated with a theme, such as biodiversity or sustainable mobility, one of their volunteers presented the association and explained to us some of the projects they carry out for the environment. The second stop was at the Church of San Piero a Grado which we visited, right after giving the participants some historical information. The third stop took place in a green area in Tirrenia, just before the beach, and it involved another environmentalist association called “Pianeta”: the proposed activity consisted in dividing the participants into two teams, giving each team two ordinary objects and making them think about alternative and creative uses for those objects. Finally, we arrived at the beach, where we played beach volleyball, had some fruit juice and a snack that we provided (taking into account every participant’s food allergies) and listened to some music. After almost an hour, we cycled back to Pisa.
In the following days we published the photos taken at the event on our social channels and also the guest associations shared them in order to show our collaboration.
All the activities were carried out in English to include all those who do not speak Italian.
