Goal of the Activity

The goal of the Bike Ride event is threefold: firstly, to provide a physical activity that is accessible to individuals of a variety of fitness levels; secondly, to allow international students to visit the areas around Milano that they might otherwise overlook and, more in particular, the Naviglio Martesana, which has a historical and cultural significance for the city; finally, as an opportunity for international students that have arrived in the new semester to meet each other while doing outdoor activity.

Description

The activity is a bike-ride along the Naviglio Martesana (canals) that stretch from the inner city of Milano out into the surrounding farmlands. The ESNers and the participants meet at the bike rental shop early in the morning, then they proceed to bike along the naviglio making a few stops along the way. They have lunch as a pick-nick and visit some of the small towns along the waterway, visiting also a local fair and shops. Finally, they return to the city and return their bikes. The entire journey is roughly 60-70km and takes the entire day.
