To visit the dog shelter “Asproan” and to take for a walk the dogs that have been abandoned or left by their owners on this shelter.
Before the activity, two entities are contacted: the dog shelter and EcoTierruca. EcoTierruca is a local partner that offers local and handmade take-out food options. In this case, EcoTierruca was not available so only the shelter was contacted. We spoke to them to let them know the date and number of people that would go visit them.
The day of the activity, the meeting point was set in the Parque de las Llamas, where the volunteers had their own cars. The dog shelter is not on the city of Santander, so each volunteers takes 4 international students with them on their car. When all the international students arrived, we went to the refuge.
When we got to the shelter, two volunteers went inside to talk to the people working on there, and the rest stayed outside with the international students. A little bit later, the two volunteers went outside with five dogs to walk. We introduced them to the international students and we started walking towards a nearby dog park.
After walking for around twenty minutes, where the international students take the dogs, we got to the dog park, where we left the international students play freely with the dogs for around one hour. We also gave them dog treats. Finally, we went back to the shelter to give the dogs back.
At the end, we went back to Santander with the volunteers cars. Some international students went home, and some others stayed for lunch with the volunteers. Take out food was ordered from a nearby restaurant.
