Despite COVID-19 pandemic, we wanted to recreate the European Aperitif, which is a real celebration in Macerata. Therefore, in occasion of the European Day, our aim was to give our Erasmus students an idea of what European Aperitif would have been in normal condition with the intention of achieving an intercultural dialogue, also showing culinary difference all over Europe with our local community and local university students. In order to do so, we organized a live chat with a French student on Instagram.
The Instagram live started at 9.30 p.m. on a Sunday night, considering that, in half an hour, everyone would have been at home because of the curfew. One of the members of ESN Macerata went live with a French student, and they started chatting about students living in the pandemic. Then they made something to virtually eat together. The ESN Macerata’s member explained and made a Spritz, a super popular Italian drink. Whereas, the French girl explained and make a sandwich, with a baguette –French bread–, ham and cheese. While eating and drinking together, the ESN Macerata’s member started reading the questions that had received in the 24 hours preceding the event. In fact, the day before we posted some Instagram stories presenting the activity and asking –through Instagram question boxes– what where their curiosities about both France and Spain. After this brief Q and A session, in the Instagram live, many comments and questions started arriving in real-time from the audience. Therefore, the conversation went on touching many themes such as the Erasmus life, and culinary differences and analogies between European countries. The Instagram live stopped at 10:48 p.m.
