Goal of the Activity

To promote intercultural understanding and appreciation of traditional Turkish heritage by engaging international and local students in a hands-on cultural learning experience.

Description

As part of ErasmusDays, Ege University hosted an engaging Zeybek Workshop, offering both local and international students a chance to explore one of Türkiye’s most iconic traditional dances. A Turkish student acted as the guide for the day, introducing participants to the cultural background and symbolic meaning of the Zeybek, a dance that embodies bravery, respect, and unity. Step by step, the guide demonstrated the moves, explaining the rhythm, gestures, and traditional stance characteristic of the Zeybek. To ensure that everyone could fully participate, the explanations were simultaneously translated into English, creating an inclusive and educational environment for all attendees. After learning the basics, participants performed the dance together, bringing the workshop to life with music, laughter, and movement. The event was not only a celebration of Turkish culture but also a joyful moment of intercultural exchange, where students connected through shared experience and mutual curiosity. #ErasmusDays
