The main goal of the activity was to give our international students a new point of view of the city of Pisa, by offering them a tour of the walls. Moreover, we organised this event right after the Dantedì, a national day to remember Dante and his artistic work, thus we included some stops dedicated to this artist, to showcase the cultural heritage of our country. This physical event took place after a social campaign which included some curiosities and pills about Dante.
The Walls of Pisa are the oldest Italian example of almost completely preserved city walls. The construction began in 1154 in the northern part of the Arno, and the original length was of 7 km around the city centre. Nowadays, they can be partially visited (about 3 km) from four access points.
The activity consisted of a tour of the walls of Pisa from Torre Santa Maria to Torre di Legno with four cultural stops, each one with a Dante-themed activity. The first was a reading of the Proemio of the Divina Commedia, the second was a quiz about Dante, the third was a game based on Dante’s vocabulary used in his masterpiece and the last was a reading of the XXIV Canto of Inferno, about the Vituperio di Pisa.
The event was followed by a gelato altogether to promote sociality among the international student and the volunteers.
The event was open to both international students and local volunteers.
