To visit the Sanremo Pride" exhibition and reflect upon the importance of LGBTI+ rights and protests
On 19th of may we organized a visit to "Sanremo Pride 1972-2022", an exhibition that celebrates the 50 years of the Italian LGBTI+ movement. Thanks to our collaboration with the Movimento Pansessuale Arcigay association of Siena we could visit the exhibition with a free guide made by one of Arcigay volunteer. The visit focused on the birth of the Italian LGBTI+ movement in 1972 in the city of Sanremo, where a big crowd of people met to protest against a conference of doctors who wanted to "cure" LGBT+ people. Starting from that moment the LGBTI+ movement in Italy started fighting for their own right, following what was happening already in other parts of the world. The guide talk us about the difficult time of Second World War, when homosexuals were victims of concentration camps, and the difficulties in obtaining rights during the following years. Moreover, a small focus was made also on the 1980' and the long period were HIV and AIDS were diffused in the world. Finally, we could reflect upon the differences that exist between homosexuals, transexuals, bisexuals.
