The aim of the project is to remind the students in three village schools that they are not alone and to facilitate them in sharing their happiness by bringing them together. With the understanding that love and happiness multiply when shared, the aim was to spend a day with students, teachers, parents, and volunteers. Although not a long-term, the project is intended to provide them with the materials they need.
The Village School Project, organized by ESN Türkiye in collaboration with various partners, took place on October 29, 2023. The project was started at least 1 month in advance, together with the project partners Balya, BilTech and Kitap Kardeşliği. Initially, three primary schools where students faced geographic and economic barriers were selected, and efforts were initiated for a total of 47 students. On the day of the project, different numbers of volunteers from the partners participated, and on behalf of ESN Türkiye, the National Project Manager, the National SI Coordinator, and 5 valuable volunteers from our sections participated. The project, designed to foster inclusivity and happiness, lasted for one day. The agenda began with a ceremony due to the national significance of the day (Republic Day - 100th Year). During the ceremony, students performed dance routines, and songs were sung. Then, various gifts were given to each primary school student. These gifts include a book titled 'A Speech' for children, stationery items, coats, boots, wind spinners, balloons, socks, bubble blower, grass man, coloring books, various snacks, and 2 different children's books. After these hours, when it was understood that the students were much happier than expected, game and activitiy hours started. All volunteers spent time and played games with the children. Some of these games were made with plastic balls, soccer balls, hula hoops and jump ropes, which were additionally provided within the project. For the face painting session, students lined up and all of them were taken care of, and then demonstrations of balloon shaping were made. Finally, a fun activity on handcrafting took place and a puzzle game called 'secret code' was played. After this part, the volunteers and students ate the meals prepared by the valuable parents, and then preparations were made for the end of the program.
