Goal of the Activity
Raise awareness about the experiences of individuals with blindness.
Description
- Participants wear sleeping masks and keep their eyes closed throughout the entire experience, relying on senses other than sight to navigate each activity. The goal is to build empathy and deepen understanding of the ways people with blindness connect with the world.
- Activities:
- Speedfriending 👥 – This activity invites participants to make connections without visual cues, focusing on verbal communication, personality, and voice alone. It offers insight into how people with blindness form impressions and build relationships.
- Blind Tasting 🥽🍎🍫 – Through tasting a variety of foods without seeing them, participants rely on heightened senses of smell and taste. This activity emphasizes the way flavors and textures can be perceived more richly when sight is removed.
- BlindArt 🥽🎨 – Participants engage in creating sculptures or impressions purely by touch, using tactile perception alone. This activity highlights the role of imagination and sensory awareness in art-making, helping participants experience creation without visual guidance.
- Approaching Hands 👐 – In this tactile activity, participants recognize someone by touch, noticing details like temperature, texture, and accessories. It fosters an appreciation for non-visual identification and unique personal characteristics.
- Audio Descriptive Short Movie 🔊📽 – Watching a short film with audio descriptions provides participants with an experience of how people with blindness consume visual media. This activity offers a chance to reflect on the importance of accessible and inclusive storytelling.
