The goal of the activity was to introduce incoming Erasmus students to Turkish culture, history, and cuisine while fostering connections among participants. By combining a traditional Turkish breakfast with visits to significant historical and cultural sites in Ankara, the event aimed to provide an immersive experience that helped students feel welcomed and engaged in their new environment. Additionally, it encouraged social interaction, cultural exchange, and a deeper understanding of Türkiye’s heritage.
The event began with a traditional Turkish breakfast in the historic district of Hamamönü, where participants enjoyed a variety of local delicacies while getting to know each other. After breakfast, the group explored the charming streets of Hamamönü, visiting the house of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, a significant literary and historical figure in Türkiye.
Following this, the group proceeded to the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, where they gained insights into Türkiye’s rich historical past. The journey continued with a visit to Ankara Castle, offering stunning panoramic views of the city, and a stop at antique shops filled with historical treasures.
The cultural exploration extended to the Rahmi Koç Museum, where students engaged with exhibits showcasing Turkey’s industrial and technological history. The day concluded in a cozy antique vinyl café, where participants relaxed over traditional Turkish drinks like Turkish coffee and salep, reflecting on their experiences and bonding over meaningful conversations.
This activity not only allowed students to immerse themselves in Turkish culture but also created a welcoming and interactive atmosphere that helped build friendships and lasting memories.
