The goal of the Šiauliai trip is to offer LSMU Erasmus students an enriching and memorable excursion to Šiauliai, the fifth-largest town in Lithuania. The trip aims to provide participants with an opportunity to explore the main attractions of Šiauliai, including its old town, a chocolate factory, and the iconic Hill of Crosses. Through guided tours and interactive experiences, the event seeks to educate participants about the history, culture, and significance of these landmarks while fostering camaraderie and creating lasting memories among participants.
Dear students,
I am very happy to be able to invite to a trip to Šiauliai, 5th biggest town in Lithuania on the 4th of November (Saturday)!
We will visit the main attractions of Šiauliai oldtown with an English speaking guide.
After we will head to a Chocolate factory where you will learn a 4000 years history of chocolate! And you will be able to take part in a chocolate making workshop!
Then we will go to Kryžių kalnas (Hill of Crosses). It is unique place, one and only in the world! A UNESCO heritage site.
The trip is for LSMU Erasmus students only!
The cost is 10 euros per person. You can pay when you come to the bus.
There are 25 places only!

Detailed programme:
8h50 – departure by bus from Kaunas, there will be a short stop at the gas station.
11h30-13h10 A walking tour around Šiauliai: you will visit all the main sights with an
English-speaking guide.
13h10-13h50 Free time on the main street of Šiauliai to grab a snack or visit the free
interactive exhibition about the Baltic nations to learn more about the past of Lithuania.
13h50-16h00. A guided tour in Chocolate Museum as well as a chocolate making
workshop.
At 16h00 we’ll take the bus to the Hill of Crosses (Kryžių Kaunas) where an English-
speaking guide Margarita will greet us for a tour in this culturally and historically important
place.
By the way, the Hill of Crosses is growing every single day and if you wish to leave your
own purchased or handmade cross – you can bring one with you! If we are lucky, we may see
the sunset out there.
After the tour we will start out trip back home by bus, a short stop at the gas station on the
way home is to be expected.
We shall be back to Kaunas at 21h.
Please make sure to pack 1.5l of water, snacks (breakfast and an evening snack; there may
not be time to buy it in Šiauliai). If you have a thermos for hot drinks – it will come in handy.
Please consider that the temperature will drop: umbrella, scarves, hats and gloves will be
necessary to enjoy this trip to the fullest. You may take an extra sweater as well!
