Goal of the Activity

To present the traditional foods of Tuscany to the international students just arrived in Siena, and foster the importance of zero waste and responsable consumption of local products

Description

The event has been organized during the Welcome Week of the first semester 2021/2022, in collaboration with the University of Siena, who permits the use of the San Francesco University complex, and through the sponsorship of the Agenzia Regionale per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario (ARDSU) Tuscany. The activity organized was a tasting event where different local farmers and producers could present their products to the students. The two major aims of the event were indeed to showcase some of the traditional foods of Tuscany (salumi, cheese, Chianina meat and wine) and, morever, show the importance of consuming local foods, something that reduce waste and help the "green economy". The students could try the different foods, starting from salumi and bread, cheese, hamburgers made with Chianina meat, and also taste different Tuscanian wines, while a professional sommelier explain the differences between the wines. The ESN staff prepared for the international students a welcome kit, comprising a bag and a reusable glass that they could use during the event for the tasting, and a guide in three different languages (English, Spanish and Italian) so to explain the importance of the event and the tradition of Italian food. The event has been widely appreciated by both Erasmus students and the local producers, that have had the chance to talk to each other and exchange important moments together.
