Objective / Goal of the activity

Tanoda is an after-school for the underprivileged kids of Pécs that come from troubled families or families with low income. The school welcomes volunteers to help the kids with their homework and doing some fun and inquiring activities.

The aim was to encourage some international students to show these kids that there is so much more to life by presenting our countries, sharing our culture, food, music, language and having fun together.

Description

Throughout 2 days the international students were talking about their traditions, shared some food, talked about festivals, nature of their countries; kids got to learn how to count to 10 in Chinese, Spanish, Portugueese, Kazakh and how to write their name in Egyptian hieroglyphs ;) Even though the kids didn't really understand much in English, they surely learned something new, saw beautiful places of the world and we all had fun!

Result of the activity

The visit not only achieved its aim of showing the kids that there is so much more to life in spite of their current state of being but also encouraged some international students to volunteer at the school on weekly basis! We could fell the warmth that was coming from the kids; they are truly interested in whatever you have to say even if they can’t really understand you. They are happy to celebrate things with you and it feels like our Erasmus students got to experience that <3
