Goal of the Activity

The main objective was the social and cultural Integration of Indonesian people in our local community. We are aware that this was an ambitious goal, and we tried to give our contribution by fostering intercultural dialogue between them, our volunteers and exchange students. This was a small step in the long process of integration that can be achieved through fighting stereotypes and embracing cultural differences.

Moreover, a secondary goal was to promote team building in an unconventional way, since we strongly believe that a well-working team is a group of people in which everybody is trained to be open minded and listen actively to their peers, even when they have a very different background with respect to ours.

Description

The event was based on a series of tasks to be solved in teams. The participants were divided into four different teams to solve three challenges. The first challenge was a quiz about Italian history, geography and culture. The second and third were instead two traditional Indonesian games.

During the first one, called "Lomb balap kelereng", players had to run while holding a spoon containing a marble supported only by the strength of the mouth, trying not to drop the marble until the finish line. The second one, called "Lomba kerupuk", was a food competition in which the participants had to eat a shrimp cracker hanging from a rope without using their hands. The prizes for the winning team were some Indonesian handcrafts and ESN Pisa gadgets.
