Goal of the Activity

To discuss Young People and European Participation at the Students’ roundtable of the 5th Erasmus+ International Week of the School of Political Sciences “Cesare Alfieri”, University of Florence.

Description

We conducted a Students’ roundtable for Erasmus Professors in mobility and students of Political Science.
In the first part, we introduced the topic of Young People and European Participation, focusing on the Gap between the EU and its citizens. Moreover, we focused on Youth Political Identity: do we feel more European or do we identify more with our local identity?
After discussing the vertical initiatives of the European Union for Young People, we explored what Young People can do for the European Union. Taking into consideration the EU Youth Strategy and emphasising that encouraging student and professor mobility is explicitly stated in Article 165 of the TFEU, we presented the Erasmus+ short mobility projects. We analysed how promoting mobility and interculturality through non-formal education methods fosters a European sentiment and a greater incentive to vote in European elections.
In conclusion, we discussed youth associationism and participation in democratic life. We explained what ESN is, its values, aims, and causes. Presenting ESN's international commitment, with the project "Erasmus Generation in Action," in promoting voting in the upcoming European elections. Additionally, we also illustrated the experience of "#Generazionesenzavoto" and how young people in ESN have positively impacted their ability to exercise their right to vote during Erasmus mobility.
