Goal of the Activity

Learn about sea turtles' life cycle and raise awareness on the risks they have to face in the sea due to humans' activities.

Description

On Saturday 8th June we visited “Centro Studi Cetacei ONLUS” in Pescara, a sea turtles rescue center. There were 7 people (Esners and Erasmus). From the terminal bus we took bus number 5 to reach the center.

A volunteer welcomed us and explained to us which are the two species of sea turtles most common in our area, how they create a nest and which are the threats they face due to human activities.

Then we saw the turtles inside tubs: each of them has a name and a medical history. The guide told us how they were rescued, when and if they plan to release them according to their health problems, what they eat, how to recognize a male and a female turtle, etc..

In the end we saw a video which showed how the volunteers release the turtles.

The guided visit was in english, the Erasmus had a lot of questions and they liked the visit very much. In fact, in the end they also bought souvenirs and donated money to the association.
