Goal of the Activity

The aim was to raise awareness and explain what the Pride Parade and the Pride Month are, in occasion of the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. A lot of people go to Pride in Bologna, but it is also important to know how the Pride was born and why it keeps on being organised.

Description

We posted some stories dealing with the history of Pride in the world and in Italy, LGBTQIA+ movements in Bologna and so on. We also added some Q&A to get people more involved in that. We also decided to keep the stories in the highlights: https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/18309957076155642/

  • Story #1: The Pride Parade (known simply as "Pride") is an event that celebrates LGBTQIA+ self-acceptance, achievements, legal rights, and also as a way to raise awareness on legal rights such as same-sex marriage.

  • Story #2: Pride takes usually place in June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City, following a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, which was a turning point for LGBTQIA+ movements worldwide. That's why June is known as the "Pride Month".

  • Story #3 (Q&A): Where did the first Pride in Italy (1994) take place? Rome - CORRECT / Milan / Bologna / Naples

  • Story #4 (Q&A): When did the first Bologna Pride take place? 1994 / 1995 - CORRECT / 1984 / 2000

  • Story #5: On 28th June 1982, for the first time in Italy, the Municipality of Bologna, gave one of its buildings for rent (the Cassero di Porta Saragozza) to a LGBT association, thus establishing a dialogue  between the LGBT movement and institutions in Bologna.

  • Story #6: Pride keeps on being organised every year in Bologna. This year it will take place on 6th July 2024.
