Goal of the Activity

Teach Erasmus students basic and useful Polish words and phrases that they can later use during shopping or in a restaurant, allowing them a more comfortable experience of their stay in Poland. A presentation with words and phrases, fun games and exercises were used to achieve it.

Description

Being the first activity of its Language 101 series, our activity aimed to bring Erasmus students closer to the language of the country they choose for the next seeable future. The Polish language was introduced to them closely and in much more practical detail to help them in their everyday endeavours e.g.: going to a shop for groceries or eating at a restaurant. To do so, a presentation was shown to teach international students basic greetings and responses, phrases used in shops, restaurants and coffee shops. After the theoretical part, everyone participated in the "Hangman" game to bring a fun element to the event. In this game, phrases and words with unique Polish letters that didn't make it to the presentation were taught. After the game, participants were given sheets of paper with printed exercises so they could practice their freshly gained knowledge in three forms: recreate a proposed dialogue in Polish, create their dialogue and practice ordering a coffee in a coffee shop. To end the event in a fun and interactive way, the "Hangman" game was repeated with words that volunteers from the organisation came up with.
