The LokalBond Experience aimed to provide exchange students with a hands-on introduction to traditional Turkish cooking. By actively participating in the preparation of authentic dishes, attendees not only learned essential cooking techniques but also explored the cultural significance of Turkish cuisine. The activity focused on fostering an interactive and immersive learning environment, where participants could engage with a local host, gain practical culinary skills, and experience the warmth of Turkish hospitality firsthand.
As part of the LokalBond Experience, organized as part of Welcome Month, participants stepped into a welcoming home kitchen to cook a traditional Turkish meal with a local mom. The menu featured perde pilavı (a flavorful rice dish encased in a thin pastry crust), broccoli, and green lentil soup, each prepared using fresh ingredients and authentic methods. Throughout the session, the host shared cooking tips, cultural insights, and personal stories, making the experience both educational and heartwarming. The activity concluded with a shared meal, where everyone came together to enjoy the delicious homemade dishes and celebrate the joy of Turkish hospitality.
