An unfortunate reality of the ongoing pandemic is that the restrictions it has spurred have severely worsened the income stability of households already struggling with disadvantaged positions in society. Such was the case of a family with two young children we had heard about in Lumina town. On top of the parents' struggles to maintain living wages after being furloughed, the family's situation was worsened following the recent abandonment of the children and their mother by the biological father working abroad. As solidarity with the vulnerable members of our society stands among the core values of our associations, we banded together to provide relief to this family.
We teamed up with the Student's League in the Maritime University of Constanta (LSUMC) and the Community of Bessarabian Youth in Constanta (CTB Constanta) to make this fundraiser happen. All the associations involved also enlisted the help of teachers from the Maritime University of Constanta and "Ovidius" University of Constanta. Specifically, we organised a fundraiser open to the whole local community, through which we were able to raise enough funds to provide the family with significant quantities of non-perishable foodstuffs, school supplies and even a fridge. Ultimately, our action reached its stated purpose: to spearhead our conviction for the social inclusion of disadvantaged members of our society as a gesture leaving a positive impact.
