The goal of this activity is to provide Erasmus students
with an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Italy, showcasing the
breathtaking scenery of Lago Maggiore, a stunning lake just a short train ride
from Milan. This excursion offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle
of the city, allowing students to immerse themselves in nature and explore
charming lakeside towns. Along the way, they will have the chance to discover
the region’s rich history and culture through its historic villas, churches, and
landmarks. Students will also enjoy a boat trip to the Borromean Islands,
where they can explore exquisite gardens and palaces. Ultimately, the activity
aims to offer a relaxing and enriching experience in a serene atmosphere,
fostering a deeper connection to Italy’s natural and cultural heritage.
At 08:25 AM, we departed from Milan’s central
station and took the train to Lago Maggiore, arriving at around 10:20 AM. Upon
arrival, we enjoyed a nice walk along the lakeside, stopping for a quick coffee
and breakfast before heading to the boat.
Our first boat trip took us from the mainland to Isola Dei Pescatori, one of the
stunning Borromean Islands. We explored the island, taking in its beautiful
gardens. Afterward, we boarded another boat to Isola Bella, where we enjoyed
a relaxing stroll through the village, admired the views, and visited some of the
island’s charming old churches. For those who wished to join, we had a
traditional Italian aperitivo, savoring local snacks with fellow students.
Next, we took the boat back to the mainland, where we had some free time to
explore the town and visit a second-hand market for anyone interested in a little
shopping.
To wrap up the day, we gathered for a delightful snack break at a lakeside bar
before heading back to the train station. Our train departed at 05:23 PM, arriving
back in Milan at 06:40 PM.
