The goal of the activity was the sensibilization of Erasmus students and ESNers on deaf culture as we believe that education about disabilities and diversities, along with empathy and understanding, are the means to promote awareness and social inclusion.
We attended a brief course on Italian Sign Language, or LIS (in italian) in which our international students and ESNers learnt its basics (the alphabet, how to spell your name and surname, numbers, days of the week, months, countries and nationalities, colours and much more!).
The event was interactive and included games such as ‘Capture the Flag!’ obviously with no talking involved but using the Italian Sign Language.
The event was organized in collaboration with the association 'LISten' which aims at promoting integration and mutual respect between deaf and hearing people in our community.
