Goal of the Activity

The Italian Gesture event is all about discovering the fascinating world of Italian nonverbal communication. Through this experience, international students will learn the meaning and cultural significance of Italy’s most famous hand gestures, understanding how they shape everyday conversations. It’s a great opportunity to enhance cross-cultural awareness, recognizing how body language differs across societies.

But it’s not just about theory—this event is interactive and fun! Participants will engage in hands-on activities to practice and master essential Italian gestures, helping them feel more confident when interacting with locals. Most importantly, it’s a chance to enjoy an immersive and entertaining experience, blending learning with laughter and cultural exploration.

Description

This event brings international students and Italian volunteers together for a unique cultural experience over dinner. While enjoying a meal, participants learn iconic Italian hand gestures in a fun and interactive way. Each volunteer has their own teaching style—some turn it into a guessing game, while others ask students to share equivalent gestures from their own countries.

The highlight of the evening is the final challenge: each group must perform a silent theatrical skit, using only Italian gestures to communicate. The night ends with a friendly competition, where the top two teams (in this case) receive a special prize—a keychain featuring the classic Italian hand gesture!
