We went to the retirement home and conversed with them and had snack time with them. Some of these people's families are far away, and they don't have visitors often. Our students are away from home, and miss their family and grandparents. Bringing these two generations together can help ease that homesickness and the loneliness.
Everyone was welcome to our event! Some of the seniors no longer talked, but were nonetheless present, much to our delight, and just listened to others' conversations. Most of them depend on walkers or wheelchairs. The tables were spaced in a way that allowed everyone to move freely. We used a microphone and speaker, so they could hear everyone talk, regardless of their hearing loss. For those that got tired, they were free to go back to their rooms at any time. We've tried to respect their autonomy and their abilities. We had prepared many activities, and adapted once we had assessed the situation on the day of the event.
