Goal of the Activity

To get some new insights about Hungary! Our goal was to give the opportunity for the international (Erasmus, Erasmus Mundus, Stipendium Hungaricum and full time) students of MATE to learn a little bit more detailed about their new home, Hungary so they will feel more comfortable and "home" during their stay in this country. We also wanted them to face that beautiful lingual diversity that they brought from their own cultures and communities in a funny and entertaining way. And of course, to create a place for them to meet and get to know each other.

Description

We, the members of ESN MATE made a small presentation about Hungary, with the following topics:

  • basic facts
  • history
  • most spectacular natural, rural and urban locations
  • cuisine
  • Hungarian inventions and products
  • famous Hungarians

We also talked about Transylvania, as a former Hungarian region, highlighting its ethnic diversity, folklore, religious traditions and natural values.

After the presentation we let the students taste those specifically Hungarian foods, snacks and drinks that we prepared for them. They were very open-minded and tried all the foods even if they were quite unusual for them. Then we played two language-related games. Through these games the students could try to learn a few sentences in each others' language. They enjoyed this a lot, at the end many of them showed publically their new knowledge and they all had the feeling of succes.

As the last moment of the event we played a quiz where they could check their fresh knowledge about Hungary. The winners of the quiz were rewarded with some Hungarian sweets like Balaton and Sport bar and Pilóta biscuits.
