Raise awareness of the importance of bone marrow donation and its requirements.
The idea was to encourage people to donate blood during the blood donation campaign that was taking place at the university. To do so, some of the ESN volunteers went to donate and explained the process/potential doubts that people might have. Moreover, we also wanted to encourage people to become stem cell and bone marrow donors since unfortunately, most people in our society do not know how easy, safe and important this is to save the lives of the patients suffering from certain hematological diseases. People in general tend to think that this type of donation has to do with the spine or that it is dangerous for the donor, however this is not true. Therefore we decided to contact people who had received a stem cell or bone marrow transplant and people who had donated so that they could explain what it was about, its huge importance and also to answer all the questions that people had. Besides, we offered the assistants free hot chocolate and churros to encourage them to come and make the event more attractive.
