The origin of organising the race was born with the aim of preparing a large-scale event with which to say goodbye to the great running community that has been generated this year in Madrid (over 400 members on Whatsapp and almost 100 on Strava).
After many months of running weekly runs, participating in races together, and creating the small family that has been built, we decided to plan the race to give the 35 participants the option to beat their personal best in such a special event (some of them ran for the first time more than 10km and 4 finished the half marathon!).
On the other hand, it was clear to the OC from the beginning that an event of this calibre would have a charitable purpose, supporting a cause in line with ESN's values. Therefore, we followed the example of other charity races organised before, and contacted two organisations. Firstly, SPM and AT ("Somos Parte del Mundo en colaboración con Acción Triángulo"), with whom we established contact after their presentations at the IS Madrid SS 24/25 Training Days in order to make a donation; and secondly, Ayúdame3D (free 3D prostheses for people all over the world), to whom we commissioned the printing of the medals for the winners.
The activity was based on a 7km run through the nature area of the country house, offering the possibility to run up to a half marathon (21k).
The money raised was donated to ‘Somos Parte del Mundo in collaboration with Acción Triángulo’, a pioneering association in Equatorial Guinea to defend the rights and give support to the entire LGTBQ+ community.
Hydration and food stops were set up and at the first one, a member of both NGOs explained the work they do and ways to support the cause.
At the end of the race, 8 medals were given to another social work association, "Ayúdame 3D".
