Introducing the international students to local culture and the Altstadt
Maybe you have walked past them several times. You wonder what these "kiosks" are and why there are so many of them. The so-called "kiosks" are actually called "Büdchen" in Düsseldorf and have a long tradition. Their sole purpose is not just to get forgotten groceries when the supermarkets close down. "Because Büdchen are just not only convenient shopping facilities for the most necessary things in life, but also an important neighbourhood meeting place and place to exchange news - to update the local network in real life. The shopkeepers thus bring together the most diverse groups in one space with the same needs," as the "Düsseldorfer Büdchentag e.V." puts it - and yes, there is a whole festival day for these stalls in the summer. For now, we'll just have our own Büdchentag and stroll through the Oberbilk district with a refreshing drink or two.
