To build more inclusive community by fostering empathy and understanding through firsthand experiences of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities
Empathy Day in the Disability Awareness Centre provided participants with an immersive experience, stepping into the shoes of individuals with various disabilities. Attendees engaged in a series of eye-opening activities designed to foster empathy and understanding.
Participants experienced the physical challenges of maneuvering wheelchairs through specially designed parkour obstacles, highlighting the agility and strength required for everyday mobility. Through interactive simulations, participants felt the nuances of living with autism, including sensory sensitivities and communication differences. In a pitch-black room, attendees had to complete tasks of finding specific objects, relying only on senses other than sight to navigate, gaining insight into the daily hardship of those with visual impairments.
This event was truly transformative, offering first-hand experiences that went beyond just listening to the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of empathy and understanding in building an inclusive community.
