Engage Erasmus students and local volunteers in a collaborative environmental cleanup to foster a sense of community responsibility, promote sustainable practices, and support a circular economy by ensuring collected plastic waste is directed to recycling. This activity encourages environmental stewardship, contributes to the beautification of Parco della Favorita, and aligns with ESN's objectives to reduce waste, promote recycling, and protect local natural heritage.
This initiative also supports the integration of Erasmus students into local community efforts, providing a hands-on experience in environmental action and active citizenship within their host city.
On Sunday, October 27, ESN Palermo joined forces with Plastic Freeto participate in "La Domenica Favorita 24" with an environmental cleanup at Parco della Favorita. Starting at 9:30 AM, Erasmus students and local volunteers gathered at Giardino Florio. Plastic free t-shirts were distributed to the volunteers as well as gloves and large waste bags. Together, they spent the morning collecting plastic waste and other litter until 11:30, which was then sorted for proper recycling and taken by RAP trucks to be recycled. At the end of the event a commemorative photo was taken with plastic free as the hosts
The event was a rewarding experience that combined physical activity with environmental stewardship. Participants connected over their shared commitment to sustainability, enjoyed Palermo's beautiful park, and actively contributed to making the area cleaner and more enjoyable for everyone. The collaboration fostered a sense of community responsibility and gave Erasmus students a chance to engage with local environmental initiatives, aligning with ESN's goals of active citizenship and responsible consumption.
