Goal of the Activity

The purpose of the event is to get the Erasmus students insight into how is the life of the blind person - for most of the Erasmus students, it is a completely new experience not to see anything.

  • the participant feel more free to help other people
  • they tried life without sight
  • can better empathize with the lives of the blind
  • see the disabled people differently, see the problems of handicapped people
  • they learned the basic skills for moving without sight
Description

The aim of the event is to show the student what the world looks like for people who cannot see. The participants tried out what it is like to be navigated in an unfamiliar environment and to drive only by hearing and touch.

We met students at the bus stop, where we taught them basic rules about moving safely and after that covered their eyes  (masks) so they weren’t able to see anything. After that we moved slowly to the place for dinner. (We were navigating them to move safely).

The place of the dinner was completely in the dark, so no one were able to see anything. Students firstly tried to discover the place and find their spot at the table. They ate dinner in complete darkness as well - the gained new experience of eating and tastes. During dinner we chatted with them about their feelings and experiences. After the dinner they could walk around the room, they guessed how the place looks like and after that they could see the place even without masks - no one found out they were in this place before.
