Description

Developing Youth Voices against Discrimination

The activity consisted of four workshops focusing on the following topics: discrimination of local and international students, social exclusion, inclusive language and the last workshop reflected on the day with the creation of a guide with parctical advice to tackle these issues. It helped to promote a culture of inclusion and diversity, and raise awareness about the importance of addressing discrimination in all its forms. The participants were ESN volunteers and local students together with the facilitators who created the workshops.

The group of facilitators started working on the workshops two weeks beforehand after getting a general understanding of the event and expectations. Before the event they gave feedback on each other's TSOs and discussed more about the sessions. The sessions consisted from different activities in order to reach the learning objectives of each session and the facilitators used non-formal education methods to reach the desired outcomes.

Moreover, the promotion of the event started in the beginning of May, the event was promoted on different social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp) as well as during our department meetings and General Assembly in order to attract not only the international and local students but also our volunteers. Furthermore, it was also shared on different faculties groups to attract more local students.

The location was ClujHub and the activities started from 10 in the morning and followed the agenda:
10:00-11:30: Together against Discrimination: Building Solidarity between international and local students

11:30-12:00: Coffe break
12:00-13:30: Excluded and Marginalized: Understanding the Causes and Effects of Social Exclusion

13:30-15:00: Lunch break

15:00-16:30: Inclusion starts with language

16:30-17:00: Coffe break

17:00-18:00: Create your personal practical Guide!

Each workshop had an impact both on local students and ESN volunteers connecting them by their experiences on discrimination and exclusion. At the end of the day the main objectives were reached, the pax and facilitators were happy of the outcomes of the training day. Each of the participants took the guide they created to share and use it. We successfully reached volunteers from our local section as well as local students who attended the trainings. They managed to connect and share ideas which led to more questions during the workshops, not to mention the ideas occuring after the workshops. Finishing the day with not only the experiences and connections created but also with a tangible practical guide will encouraged the participants to actually take action and fight discrimination and social exclusion and use inclusive language in their everyday life. They found it very useful to summarize and personalize the tips and what they've learnt during the training and they also explained how will they put these tips into practice in their everyday life.
