The aim of the activity was to visit 3 different places in the Netherlands filled with culture and history, and educate the internationals about Dutch culture, in particular, we visited a windmill where we learnt about how they were used to produce paint, a cheese museum, and a stroopwafel museum.
In the morning, we travelled together to Zaanse Schaans, where we had the opportunity to visit a windmill called 'De Kat', and explore this beautiful picturesque area. In Zaanse Schaans, we also had the opportunity to visit a recreation of the first-ever Albert Heijn store, and pet some goats! Following this, we went to the lovely island of Marken and had lunch by the seaside. From Marken, we caught a ferry which took us to Volendam. In Volendam we first visited a cheese museum, where we learnt how cheese is made, and all about the different types of Dutch cheeses. The participants then had some free time to explore this town, and after this, we went to a stroopwafel museum, where we were thought about the history of this famous Dutch snack, and got to learn how they're made. After this, we had dinner together in Volendam before returning home.
