To raise awareness among international students and the local community of the importance of reducing and recycling waste in order to curb the consequences of littering in natural areas.
To show international students one of the villages of Cantabria and the natural areas of the Miera Valley area.
The international students attending the activity met the volunteers in charge of coordinating the activity at the Santander train station, where they took a train to Solares. Once there, we distributed the materials necessary for the development of the activity and a brief talk was given on classification and measurement of waste, as the project requires feedback on the area. We divided into groups of 5 to comply with current health regulations, so that we could cover both banks at the same time.
After finishing the pick-up, we walked around Solares so that the international students could get to know another town in Cantabria and its heritage. One of the most recognized points of Solares is the estate and the Marqués de Valdecilla Museum. Another of the interesting points of the town is the Palace of the Marquises of Valbuena, a building dating from the seventeenth century.
