Goal of the Activity

The event aimed at spreading awareness on the harmful effects of human and urban pollution on the environment. Another goal was to involve participants in the change through an active volunteering experience that they also might want to repeat. In addition, through this event we wanted to give our international students the opportunity to interact with the local community.

Description

ESN Trieste and its Erasmus students, as well as other local organisations, took part in one of the periodic clean-ups organised by the local group of Plastic Free. The site chosen fo the activity was a green area located in the outskirts of Trieste, which was sadly contaminated by a huge amount of generic waste and tyres.

Before the start all participants gathered to the meeting point, where they received plastic bags, gloves and useful information on the event and on how to deal with certain materials they would find. Then everyone started to work on the zone, both individually and in group, collecting what they found along the paths and in the woods for a couple of hours. Finally the garbage collection and transport was supported by professionals for safety reasons.
