Getting to know new places and appreciating their historical, cultural and artistic heritage is the basis of a complete travel experience. Visiting the places of a city means retracing its history and the key moments in which it identifies.
The aim of the City Tour was to show the Erasmus students in Potenza the most important places in the city, explaining their history, their artistic and cultural value and finally the important social role they play.
The first stop of the tour was a visit to Palazzo Loffredo, a historic building located in the historic center of Potenza. It overlooks Largo Duomo, Largo Pignatari and Via Andrea Serrao. The building, whose first function was to house the offices of the administrative headquarters of the county, is among the most important examples of civil construction in Potenza.
Subsequently, moving a few meters, the attention shifted to the monumental cathedral of San Gerardo (Patron of the city), which is the main Catholic place of worship in the historic center of Potenza, as well as the cathedral of the city and cathedral of the archdiocese of Potenza-Muro Lucano - New Marsico.
Walking in the main street of the city, called via Pretoria (in memory of the ancient Roman camp from which Potenza was born), we passed the view of the Teatro Stabile.
The Francesco Stabile Municipal Theater is the main theater of the city of Potenza. Located in the historic center in Piazza Mario Pagano, it is named after the Lucan musician Francesco Stabile. It is the only opera house in Basilicata, as well as the only historical theater in the region. It is considered the most representative building of the capital of Basilicata.
Finally, to conclude the city tour, there is nothing better than a nice walk in the alleys and squares of the city, to get to know the faces and the everyday life of the city's inhabitants.
