The primary goal of our training was to empower young individuals to become effective advocates against racism, nationalism, and xenophobia in their local communities. The special objectives of the training event include:
- Promoting Critical Thinking: We aimed to enhance participants' critical thinking skills, enabling them to better understand the root causes of discrimination and bias.
- Fostering Inclusivity: Through the workshops, we inspired inclusivity, empathy, and intercultural dialogue, encouraging participants to embrace diversity and reject divisive ideologies.
-
Youth Activism and Advocacy: We equipped participants with the tools and strategies necessary for effective youth activism and advocacy against discrimination, responding directly to the project's aim of developing youth voices.
The duration of the training was two days. During the first day, participants engaged in interactive sessions led by experienced facilitators from the Eduk8 pool of trainers or the Training Community of ESN Greece. These sessions covered the definitions, historical context, and impact of racism, nationalism, and xenophobia. We will also explore unconscious bias, stereotypes, the importance of inclusivity and intercultural communication.
On the second day, there were two sessions/workshops: one on empathy and inclusivity and the second on activism and advocacy. After acquiring all this knowledge on topics around the training theme, participants formed small groups to develop concrete action plans to address discrimination in their local communities.
We also included small breaks so participants could take their time, relax, and engage in informal discussions and conversations.
