Goal of the Activity

The main goal of the activity was to take part in an event of beach clean up with some local organizations that are usually involved in these activities at the Riserva Naturale Regionale della Sentina in San Benedetto del Tronto.

Description

Marine biologist Agnese Riccardi, PhD student at UNIVPM involved in a project of marine environment awareness and sustainability funded by Regione Marche, invited ESN Ancona at a beach cleaning up event arranged by the organizations Reef Check Italia, Questione Natura and Marche a Rifiuti Zero, at the beautiful Riserva Naturale Regionale della Sentina in San Benedetto del Tronto.

The Erasmus were brought by ESN volunteers with their cars, meeting at 8:45 in Ancona for breakfast with Agnese, departure at 9:20 to San Benedetto del Tronto. Arrival at the meeting point in San Benedetto del Tronto at about 10:30 in the morning. After the meeting with the organizations and the volunteers involved in the event, the Erasmus were registered for the event and have been equipped with gloves and bags to collect the waste. At 11:00 the event started and 120kg of garbage were collected into the Riserva della Sentina and on the beach next to the Tronto’s mouth in about 1 hour and a half by 17 volunteers. After taking pictures with the volunteers, Erasmus were guided for a walk on the beach to return at the meeting point at about 1:30. Erasmus had lunch with Agnese and one of his interns in a Restaurant next to the event location at about 2:00.

At 3:30 Agnese left us and the Erasmus were taken to Fermo for a short city tour, in particular they visited Piazza del Popolo, Palazzo dei Priori, Duomo di Fermo, Parco della Rimembranza, the ancient roman theatre and the picturesque street of the town. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions (fog and light rain) Erasmus couldn’t appreciate the beautiful landscapes of this area on the countryside, hills, the sea and Sibillini mountains, but they enjoyed the autumnal atmosphere of the town.

We left Fermo at about 5:50 and we arrived in Ancona at about 6:45.
