The activity was a clean-up walk of the area between the Basilica di Santa Maria a piè di Chienti and the Basilica di Santa Croce al Chienti, using gloves and trash bags provided by the organizers and properly sorting the waste into plastic, glass and mixed categories.
Another goal was the promotion of sustainable transport, in fact each University included in the activity brought their students using a bus (more than 20 students for each bus), to prevent them using their cars.
Finally, the discovery of two beautiful basilicas in the area of Macerata (Basilica di Santa Maria a piè di Chienti) and Fermo (Basilica di Santa Croce al Chienti), where a student from the university of Macerata provided an explanation of their origins and unique features.
The Activity started for us, students of Università Politecnica delle Marche at 8:30 at Tavernelle bus stop, where we started our trip to Macerata. At the parking lot near the first Basilica (Basilica di Santa Maria a piè di Chienti), we met all the other students from all the universities of Marche region (Univerità degli Studi di Macerata, Università di Camerino and Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo) and the other associations involved in the event (CAI Marche, COSMARI, Legambiente Marche, Plastic Free and Civitanova Green Life).
Due to the bad weather conditions we could not follow the original plan, so the 14km walk alongside the Chienti river was replaced with a much smaller walk through the countryside, where we could still do the clean-up.
At 10:30, the organizers introduced themselves and the event, which began with a visit to the first basilica. We then got on the bus to reach the starting point.
We were given gloves and trahs bags to pick up the litter we encountered, and we started the walk, reaching the second basilica around 13:00. There, after the guide provided us with detailed information, we visited the church and paused for a lunch break.
We than took the bus again to reach the final point: the Chienti river, where, after an introduction on the river's past and its current conditions, we cleaned-up a small area.
At 15:30, we took the bus back to Tavernelle bus station.
