The goal of this activity was to shed a light on the Croatian Homeless Team, a national representation for the Homeless World Cup. We wanted to introduce international students and locals to this organization, but also to give the homeless team a chance to play against international students and professionals, and to socialize with groups they don't often have a chance to meet.
The tournament took place in the afternoon, with 4 teams participating: our Erasmus students which were the winners of Sports Day, Croatian Homeless Team(CHT), AFC Universitas junior team and Split junior team. Three games were played, each half-time lasted 15 minutes with 10-minute breaks. During and between games, our volunteers were given tasks to coordinate the audience, give water to the players, and clean the game field. We cheered and supported the players and enjoyed the game. After the game we spent some more time together chatting and getting to know each other while eating pizzas provided by our sponsors.
Prior to taking place, this event was shared by various local media; relevant news websites, two local radios and was also shared by our University.
All players enjoyed this tournament; they got to meet new people that come from different background, some of the homeless came from different towns to participate in this tournament.
In the final game, some players from the homeless team were too tired, so our Erasmus students joined their team to help them play against their opponents.
We all had a great time, and after the game were contacted by some players expressing the wish for something like this to take place again.
