Acquainting participants with the contemporary life of Krakow Jews and with the interesting initiative "Kilometers for Survivors", i.e. a celebration in honor of the Survivors of World War II - we were also part of this project.
It was a lecture at the Center for Jewish Culture in Krakow, organized in cooperation with JCC Krakow. We gathered all the participants in the courtyard of one of the tenement houses in Krakow's Kazimierz and went to the lecture room. We, as listeners, already knew the history of the extermination of Polish Jews during World War II, but the speaker proved to us that this story did not end with the war. The life of Krakow's Jews is still flourishing in Krakow. We heard the story of Olga, who learned relatively recently that she is a Jew, about the JCC refugee aid center and the difficulties in running the Jewish Cultural Center, and about contemporary customs and celebrations that take place in the heart of Krakow. After the lecture, we went for a coffee together to discuss our observations and we came to the common conclusion that we are walking through Krakow's Kazimierz many times, and we never had a clue that we were passing the Center for Jewish Culture, teeming with life and good.
