Goal of the Activity

To provide a fun and supportive space for Erasmus students and local members to practice their English. By discussing various topics like books, movies, and music, we wanted to help participants build confidence in their language skills and gain vocabulary while making new friends. The mix of discussions and games ensured everyone enjoyed themselves. Over the semester, this regular event helped us create a strong community, where students could learn, laugh, and grow together.

Description

Speaking Club was an event designed to bring together Erasmus students and local members in a fun and engaging environment. Each week, participants gathered to practice their English by discussing a variety of interesting topics. These topics were chosen to spark conversations, allowing everyone to learn from each other.

The event was open to everyone, regardless of their level of English proficiency, making it a space where all participants can feel comfortable and supported. The friendly atmosphere encouraged participants to step out of their comfort zones, helping them build confidence in their language skills.

In addition to the discussions, we incorporated interactive games to add an element of fun and keep the energy high. These games matched the weekly themes and helped everyone bond.

Week 1: On first week of speaking club, we kept the topic simple. The first step always starts with getting to know each other. That's why our first-week concept was: “Let's be friends”.

Week 2: In the second week of Speaking Club, our theme was “Movies and Series”. We delved into everyone's favorite films and TV shows. To add some fun, we played a trivia-based group game centered on movies and series, allowing everyone to test their knowledge and share interesting facts.

Week 3: In the third week of Speaking Club, we explored the world of music. Participants shared their favorite songs, artists, and genres, leading to discussions about different musical influences and tastes. We played the trivia-based group game again, this time focusing on music-related questions.

Week 4: The fourth topic was “Travel Experiences”. Participants shared stories from their adventures around the world, describing favorite destinations, unique cultural encounters, and memorable trips. This week's theme provided an opportunity for everyone to learn about different places and cultures through personal narratives.

Week 5: In the fifth week of Speaking Club, our focus was on “Books and Literature”. Participants discussed their favorite books, authors, and literary genres. To make the session more engaging, we played a "Who Am I" game using well-known book characters. The theme allowed participants to practice their English while exploring the world of literature.

Week 6: In the sixth week of Speaking Club, our theme was “Sports”. Participants shared their favorite sports, teams, and athletes, discussing memorable matches and personal experiences with various sports activities

Week 7: For our last Speaking Club session, we decided to shake things up. Instead of a specific topic, participants wrote down questions or topics they wanted to discuss. We randomly selected questions from a bowl, leading to diverse conversations. Afterwards, we played two fun games. "Two Truths and a Lie" tested how well participants knew each other after spending time together. Then, "Guess the Leader" added a nice twist with physical activities.

Over the course of the semester, the Speaking Club has proven to be more than just a language practice session. It has become a platform for cultural exchange, where students from different backgrounds come together to share their experiences and build lasting friendships. The regular meetings help create a strong sense of community, making it easier for new students to integrate and feel at home.
